List of all Player Character Traits (17) in Starfield with advantages and disadvantages: Alien DNA, Dream Home, Empath, Extrovert, Freestar Collective Settler, Hero Worshiped, Introvert, Kid Stuff, Neon Street Rat, Raised Enlightened, Raised Universal, Serpent's Embrace, Spaced, Taskmaster, Terra Firma, United Colonies Native and Wanted, Starfield Maps, Walkthrough & Guide.

Character Traits in Starfield are additional optional perks that you can assign to your character during Character Creation. You can choose 3 Traits as long as they are not mutually exclusive.

Each Character Trait gives you some advantage and some disadvantage at the same time, you can also get additional in-game activities as well as additional dialogue options.

Alien DNA Trait

You volunteered for a controversial experiment that combines alien and human DNA. As a result, you start with a higher health pool and greater endurance, but healing items aren't as effective.

  • Advantage: High health pool;
  • Advantage: High endurance;
  • Disadvantage: Med Packs heal you less.

Dream Home Trait

You own a luxurious, customizable house on a peaceful planet! Unfortunately it comes with a 125,000 credit mortgage with GalBank that has to be paid weekly.

  • Advantage: Free, starting outpost;
  • Disadvantage: You pay a weekly fee until you pay it off in full.

Empath Trait

You are deeply connected to the feelings of others. Performing actions your companion likes will result in a temporary increase in combat effectiveness. But, performing actions they don't like will have the precise opposite effect.

  • Advantage: You are stronger in combat when Companions accept what you do;
  • Disadvantage: You're weaker in combat when the Companions don't approve of what you're doing.

Extrovert Trait

You're a people person. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring with human companions, but more when adventuring alone. (Can't be combined with Introvert Trait.)

  • Advantage: You use less oxygen when traveling with Companion;
  • Disadvantage: You use more oxygen when traveling alone;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Introvert Trait.

Freestar Collective Settler Trait

Faction allegiance trait.

You gain access to special Freestar Collective dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. But, crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased. (Can’t be combined with any other faction allegiance trait.)

  • Advantage: Additional Freestar Collective dialogue options;
  • Advantage: Better rewards in Freestar Collective missions;
  • Disadvantage: Crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Neon Street Rat Trait;
  • Disadvantage: Disables United Colonies Native Trait.

Hero Worshiped Trait

You've earned the attention of an annoying "Adoring Fan" who will show up randomly and jabber at you incessantly. On the plus side, he'll join your ship's crew and give you gifts...

  • Advantage: Additional member of the crew and base staff;
  • Advantage: He brings gifts;
  • Disadvantage: He is really annoying.

Introvert Trait

You really need your alone time. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring alone, but more when adventuring with other human companions. (can't be combined with Extrovert).

  • Advantage: You use less oxygen when traveling alone;
  • Disadvantage: You use more oxygen when traveling with Companion;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Extrovert Trait.

Kid Stuff Trait

Your parents are live and well, and you can visit them at their home. But you will automatically send 2% of your credits home to them every week.

  • Advantage: They're very sweet and it's really fun to go visit them;
  • Disadvantage: You have pay some credits to support your parents.

Neon Street Rat Trait

Faction allegiance trait.

You grew up on the mean streets of Neon. You gain access to special dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions on Neon. Crime bounty by other factions is greatly increased. (Can't be combined with other faction allegiance traits.)

  • Advantage: Additional Neon Factions dialogue options;
  • Advantage: Better rewards in Neon Factions missions;
  • Disadvantage: Crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Freestar Collective Settler Trait;
  • Disadvantage: Disables United Colonies Native Trait.

Raised Enlightened Trait

Religion Trait

You grew up as a member of the Enlightened. You gain access to a special chest full of items in the House of the Enlightened in New Atlantis, but lose access to the Sanctum Universum Chest. (Can't be combined with any other religion trait.)

  • Advantage: Access to a special equipment resource;
  • Advantage: Additional dialogue options;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Raised Universal Traits;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Serpent's Embrace Traits.

Raised Universal Trait

Religion Trait

You grew up as a member of the Sanctum Universum. You gain access to a special chest full of items in the Sanctum Universum in New Atlantis, but lose access to the House of the Enlightened Chest. (Can't be combined with any other religion trait.)

  • Advantage: Access to a special equipment resource;
  • Advantage: Additional dialogue options;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Raised Enlightened Traits;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Serpent's Embrace Traits.

Serpent's Embrace Trait

Religion Trait

You grew up worshiping the Great Serpent. Grav jumping provides a temporary boost to health and endurance, but health and endurance are lowered if you don't continue jumping regularly - like an addiction. (Can't be combined with any other religious traits)

  • Advantage: Temporary boost to health and endurance when traveling to other stars;
  • Advantage: Additional dialogue options;
  • Disadvantage: Temporary lower health and endurance when do not traveling to other stars;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Raised Enlightened Traits;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Raised Universal Traits.

Spaced Trait

Your body has become acclimated to space. Health and endurance are increased when in space, but decreased when on the surface. (Can't be combined with Terra Firma)

  • Advantage: Health and endurance increased in space;
  • Disadvantage: Health and endurance decreased on the surface;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Terra Firma Traits.

Taskmaster Trait

Occasionally, if you have crew trained in a certain ship system, that system will automatically repair itself to full health whenever it is damaged below 50%. However, all crew cost twice as much to hire.

  • Advantage: Occasionally, Autorepair of selected systems;
  • Disadvantage: All Crew cost twice as much to hire.

Terra Firma Trait

You've never acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when on the surface, but decreased when you're in space. (Can't be combined with Spaced.)

  • Advantage: Health and endurance increased on the surface;
  • Disadvantage: Health and endurance decreased when in space;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Spaced Traits.

United Colonies Native Trait

Faction allegiance trait.

You gain access to special United Colonies dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. However, crime bounty by other factions is greatly increased. (Can't be combined with any other faction allegiance trait.)

  • Advantage: Additional United Colonies dialogue options;
  • Advantage: Better rewards in United Colonies missions;
  • Disadvantage: Crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Freestar Collective Settler Trait;
  • Disadvantage: Disables Neon Street Rat Trait.

Wanted Trait

Someone put a price on your head, and word has spread. Occasionally. armed mercenaries will show up and try to kill you, but being cornered gives you an edge - when your health is low, you do extra damage.

  • Advantage: Increased damage at low health;
  • Disadvantage: Bounty Hunters will randomly hunt you down.
