Starfield Character Creation
Character Creation Guide to help you create a Starfield character that you will enjoy playing.
Your character appears in Starfield as an employee of Argos Extractors, a mining company operating on Vectera, the moon of the planet Anselon on May 7, 2330.
For the events leading up to the start of the Starfield story, see Starfield Story So Far.
Character creation in Starfield begins few minutes after you start the game, after a brief introduction to the story. The character creation process in Starfield consists of the following stages:
- Your character's appearance settings: Biometric ID, Body and Face.
- Finding out your character's past: Background
- Traits settings, i.e. an additional description of your character.
- Familiarize yourself with the available Character Skills - you don't set them during character creation, but they will describe you in the game.
My personal Starfield Character Creation Guide
In most role-playing games, especially Bethesda games like Starfield, your character and their development are the most important part of the game.
Each of us finds his own way to make the game run nice and effectively. There will be as many different characters as there are players who will play Starfield. Therefore, don't worry about what character you play and what skills he will have at low levels. The creators of the game put a lot of effort so that everyone can easily find their path in the game.
So don't worry too much about my suggestions, just play the way you like it. Here are my "tips" for character creation and development in Starfield.
- What character you create during Character Creation, Pirate or Scientist, basically does not matter for the further game, because it is during the game itself that you will shape the strengths and weaknesses of your character.
- A few hours spent on refining the details of the face and the rest of the figure is certainly important, but in case of problems, during the game you will have the opportunity to use the Genetics Facility, where you can improve your beauty.
- Character Background is basically more of role play lore than a real indicator of your character's attributes. You get three Starting Skills, which slightly change the gameplay in the early stages, but either way you will be able to compensate for all the shortcomings in the later game.
- Character Background gives you additional dialogue options later in the game, but it doesn't have a significant impact on the whole story.
- Character Background cannot be changed during gameplay.
- The importance of Character Traits is slightly greater than Character Background, but still no Trait significantly affects the overall story.
- In general, Character Traits open up new dialogue options for you, mainly Faction Allegiance Traits and Religion Traits.
- Some Character Traits give you additional in-game stories, most notably Dream Home, Kid Stuff, and Hero Worshiped.
- Faction Allegiance Traits and Religion Traits give you bonuses to specific factions but cause hostility to their adversaries.
- None of the Character Traits block you from the game's storyline, you will still be able to complete quests for different factions and religions.
- None of the Character Traits make you significantly weaker, you'll have your disadvantages but you'll still be able to handle anything.
- Character Traits cannot be changed during gameplay.
- You don't set Character Skills during Character Creation, but it's worth getting acquainted with them and finding out in which directions you can develop.
- Personally, it seems to me that the best way to develop Skills is to develop evenly up to a certain point in the game, and after gaining the appropriate level of experience, investing in selected skills.
- You will not be able to max some skills to Rank 4 at low levels as the upgrade cost increases with your Rank. And if you spend too many points in one Skill, you will be weak in others.
- In fact, every skill is useful at some point in the game.
- I will certainly develop skills related to exploration, the ability to fly long and fast, scan planets and moons, scan flora and fauna on planets, discover new star systems.
- Skills related to interactions with NPCs, such as conversation, persuasion, trade or bribery, seem to be important. Developing these skills will make your game more interesting.
- Skills related to production, mining, cooking, making chems and research seem to be important in the long run of the game.
- As for Combat Skills, they are certainly important, but without exaggeration, it's definitely not worth investing points in every possible way of fighting and every weapon.
- I will leave the skills related to fighting in a spaceship for the second part of the game.
- Probably, as in every RPG game, knowing Stealth, Persuasion, Scavenging, Theft, Medicine and Security will make the game much easier.
Biometric ID, Body and Face
The process of creating a character in Starfield starts with setting their appearance, i.e. Biometric ID, Body and Face.
Starfield provides a lot of possibilities to create unique looks for your character.
- Biometric ID - determines the base type of your character, then this type you will refine later.
- Body - sets body type, musculature, walk style, and skin tone.
- Face - allows you to set all the parameters of your face in great detail.
These settings are not final, please note that, later, during gameplay you will be able to modify your character's appearance in the Genetics Facility.

Starfield Character Background
You can assign 1 Character Background to your character during Character Creation and you will not be able to change it during gameplay.
Character Background in Starfield is the story of your character's life, which happened before the start of the game.
Each Background has 3 Starting Skills, the description of which will allow you to better understand what role you choose in the game.
Selecting specific Character Background does not block you from any other game path or gameplay style.

- Beast Hunter - Fitness, Ballistics, Gastronomy;
- Bouncer - Boxing, Security, Fitness;
- Bounty Hunter - Piloting, Targeting Control Systems, Boost Pack Training;

- Combat Medic - Pistol Certification, Medicine, Wellness;
- Cyber Runner - Stealth, Security, Theft;
- Cyberneticist - Medicine, Security, Lasers;
- Diplomat - Persuasion, Commerce, Wellness;

Starfield Character Traits
You can choose 3 Traits (from 0 to 3) as long as they are not mutually exclusive.
Character Traits in Starfield are additional optional perks that you can assign to your character only during Character Creation.
Each Character Trait gives you some advantage and some disadvantage at the same time
There are 17 Character Traits in Starfield:
- Alien DNA - Advantage: High health pool and endurance | Disadvantage: Med Packs heal you less;
- Dream Home - Advantage: Free, starting outpost | Disadvantage: You pay a weekly fee until you pay it off in full;
- Empath - Advantage: You are stronger in combat when Companions accept what you do | Disadvantage: You're weaker in combat when the Companions don't approve of what you're doing;
- Extrovert - Disables Introvert Trait | Advantage: You use less oxygen when traveling with Companion | Disadvantage: You use more oxygen when traveling alone;
- Freestar Collective Settler - Faction allegiance trait | Disables Neon Street Rat Trait and United Colonies Native Trait - Advantage: Additional Freestar Collective dialogue options, Better rewards in Freestar Collective missions | Disadvantage: Crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased;
- Hero Worshiped - Advantage: Additional member of the crew and base staff, He brings gifts | Disadvantage: He is really annoying.
- Introvert - Disables Extrovert Trait | Advantage: You use less oxygen when traveling alone | Disadvantage: You use more oxygen when traveling with Companion;

Starfield Character Skills
Character Skills in Starfield are not set during the Character Creation process, but it is Character Skills that will decide during the game how your character will develop, they are the most important part of character development. Therefore, you should familiarize yourself with them before playing.
During Character Creation, selecting Background simultaneously you select 3 Starting Skills, it's certainly some help but generally it doesn't matter what starting skills you start the game with.
Each of the Skills has up to 4 Ranks that strengthen the Skill's power or add new abilities. You will gain subsequent Ranks mainly when using a given Skill in the game.
There are a total of 82 different Skills in the Starfield world All Starfield Skills, divided into five categories: Physical (16 Physical Skills), Social (16 Social Skills), Combat (17 Combat Skills), Science (16 Science Skills), Tech (17 Tech Skills).
