The Beginner's Guide to Star Wars Outlaws

Check the tips and tricks in the Outlaws Beginner's Guide to make your Star Wars Outlaws experience more enjoyable and tailored to your needs, Star Wars Outlaws Maps and Walkthrough.

Why is the beginning of the game simple and humble?

When starting the game in Star Wars Outlaws you may get the impression that the gameplay is poor in activity and the game interface is simply empty.

This is not true, Star Wars Outlaws, like many other games, is built in such a way that it slowly introduces you to the game's functionality step by step. The first few Main Quests, apart from developing the plot, will show you and open up new possibilities and skills of your character.

You will gain access to all features only after a few hours of gameplay in Star Wars Outlaws. So don't worry, just follow the plot.

Story, Characters and Locations

The plot in Star Wars Outlaws is fully set in the Star Wars universe known from movies and comics, between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Protagonist, controlled by the player in Star Wars Outlaws is Kay Vess, accompanied by two companions, Nix (available from the beginning of the game) and ND-5 (available later in the game), whom the hero can control to a limited extent.

The action of SWO takes place mainly on surfaces of 4 planets (Kijimi, Akiva, Tatooine and Cantonica) and 1 moon (Toshara) known from the Star Wars universe.

Gameplay is largely based on sneaking and hiding from enemies while completing quests, although there is also a fair amount of direct combat, questing, and space combat.

Planet Exploration, manipulation in conflicts between Crime Syndicates and completing Main Story Quests is main player's goal in Star Wars Outlaws.

Why can't I save my game?

Star Wars Outlaws saves the game automatically, every so often, after completing a specific part of the game.

You can always go back in the game by loading one of the three automatic saves.

Manual saving of the game at a given moment in the game is only possible when:

  • you are not in the middle of a quest;
  • you do not have wanted status;
  • you are out of combat.

The first time you will be able to save the game manually is after finishing the fourth Main Quest "Underworld", in Makal's Gambling Parlor in Mirogana on the planet Toshara.

There are 3 autosave slots and 27 manual save slots in Star Wars Outlaws.

Where is the in-game map?

The in-game map in Star Wars Outlaws is not available from the beginning of the game.

You will gain access to the map when you reach the city of Mirogana on the planet Toshara, after completing the third Main Quest "Crashed".

This game is too hard for me

Star Wars Outlaws may be too hard for many players, or surprisingly too easy for many players.

This problem can be easily solved as Star Wars Outlaws has an exceptionally well-made game settings system, which you can access from the game's main menu.

There are three basic aspects of combat difficulty: Enemy Difficulty, Player health and Wanted difficulty, and you can set the difficulty levels for each of them separately: Story, Regular, Challenging or Hard.

When it comes to setting the difficulty level, we have four predefined settings available that affect combat and minigame difficulty:

  • Explorer - Focus on the story and exploring the galaxy;
  • Adventurer - Find adventure and thrilling combat;
  • Outlaw - Live the outlaw lifestyle and embrace its challenges;
  • Scoundrel - Take on all that the galaxy and Empire can throw at them.

More importantly, we can manually tune each game mode to our requirements in Custom setting.

Additionally in the game settings, among many other options, you can enable Explorer Mode (this is not the same as the Explorer difficulty level in the game).

Explorer Mode removes the color theme from the main navigation elements for a more immersive experience. In practice, this means that you don't get highlighted active elements on the screen, which makes gameplay much more difficult.

You can also change the Wanted difficulty in Star Wars Outlaws if you find it too much trouble.

You can clear your "Wanted" status by contacting and paying corrupt Imperial officers, or by hacking into Imperial Satellites orbiting the planet.

I hate Minigames and what will you do to me?

In Star Wars Outlaws we have a set of really cool mini-games that can provide a lot of great fun.

I don't encourage skipping mini-games, but sometimes something repeated endlessly starts to get tiring.

In the game settings, the game gives you the option to adjust the difficulty level of the mini-games, or even completely disable some of the mini-games.

Disabling mini-games does not affect the gameplay and you can do it at any point of the game in the game settings.

Is Reputation Important?

Reputation in Star Wars Outlaws is a metric that indicates how the four main Syndicates in the game feel about your hero Kay.

By cooperating with a given Syndicate, you can improve your Reputation, and by acting against their interests, you will lose Reputation.

Yes, Reputation is important in the game and is one of the basic goals of the game, as it gives you free access to new locations and exclusive rewards.

However, later in the game in Star Wars Outlaws there are many ways to gain Reputation, so do not attach too much importance to decisions that affect the level of Reputation. Everything can be leveled in the future.

The level of reputation does not affect the type of ending of the main storyline of the game.

Contract Brokers, which are most often found in Canteens, will, depending on your Reputation with a given Syndicate, give you Quests to complete for that Syndicate. This is a good way to raise Reputation.

Choices and possible game endings

Your moral choices and decisions made during gameplay do not affect the main plot of Star Wars Outlaws and do not change the ending of the game.

The main plot is as if in isolation from other events in the game. Some will be saddened by this fact, others will be happy. This solution has its advantages because no even breakneck feats in the game will block you from completing the Main Quests and finishing the game.

All you need to complete the entire main storyline of Star Wars Outlaws is to complete all of the Main Quests.

Can I play after completing the main storyline?

Yes, the game doesn't end after completing the main story.

You can continue playing and do all the things you haven't done before, nothing can be missed in exploring the world of Star Wars Outlaws.

And that's very nice news, because it allows you to play the way you like and do the Quests you want. You can quickly work towards the ending by only completing the Main Quest to leave the world exploration for later, or enjoy side activities while neglecting the main storyline.

Nix is your Ultimate Tool

Your companion Nix, beyond providing "sweetness," plays an important role in the gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws.

Use his skills such as steal, distract, attacking enemy, open distant vents and sabotage. Nix Sense he can reveak enemies and interactive elements, even trough walls.

Nix can squeeze in where Kay can't, like to flip a switch. Use Nix's skills because they make the game much easier.

Visit Galactic Street Food to earn upgrades (Nix Treats) for Nix.

Blaster your only weapon

In reality, your weapons are your skills, Nix's abilities and the many ways to defeat enemies.

Although physically, you can only permanently possess the Blaster.

You can upgrade the Blaster and change its firing modes. You will also learn new abilities related to the Blaster.

During individual missions, you can temporarily pick up various weapons from the ground of defeated enemies or use stationary weapons.

Use Adrenaline Rush both in normal combat and on Speeder, he can truly do wonders.

Vehicles

Kay moves around the planet's surface using a Speeder, which you can upgrade. The Speeder also allows you to participate in Speeder Bike Race and can be used as a portable Fast Travel location.

You can summon your Speeder at any time in a place where you can ride Speeders with a hotkey. ("Y" on PC)

For orbiting planets, visiting locations there, space fights, and jumping between planetary systems, Kay uses the Trailblazer Spaceship.

Kay acquires the Trailblazer Ship relatively early in the game's story. The Trailblazer serves as a base and a way to quickly travel between planetary systems with Hyperdrive. The Trailblazer can be upgraded using Ship Upgrades, parts and materials acquired in the game.

Does Fast Travel work in Star Wars Outlaws

Yes, Fast Travel is in the game, although not immediately and not always.

Of course, you have to visit the place to which you will later use Fast Travel.

You cannot use Fast Travel during some missions and events.

Fast Travel works both within planet surface and in space between planets.
