Between the Words Walkthrough
"Between the Words" is a short quest in the Anca storyline that eventually leads to a romance and the "Font of Life" reward. It starts automatically right after you finish "Echoes of Silenced Bells" in St. Tyna's Convent, acting as a bridge to her next mission, "Where Old Devils Lie."
Since this is tied to the romance path, you need to watch your dialogue choices. Throughout this and the upcoming quests, keep your tone supportive but don't come on too strong.
- Head back to the Crossroads Inn and talk to Anca.
- She is acting as a vendor again, so take this chance to sell off your junk.
- Exhaust all the side dialogue options, except for [give in to the hunger], obviously.
- Choose [Let's go through the books from Tyna's.]
- Choose [Hope you had more luck than me.]
- Prepare a warm drink and hand it to Anca.
- Choose [It's my pleasure.]
- Choose [There are better sources of joy than herbal brews.]
- [Inspect] the 5 books on the table. You will notice that one of them, "Sancti Mihai Historia Vera," is completely blank. Show it to Anca.
- Choose [move the candle over the page]. Notice how this is apparently the only candle in existence that doesn't drip wax.
- Choose [move the candle down]
- Choose [Where do I find Albertus?]
- Choose [Always? What do you mean?]
- Choose [Your feelings toward me - it's more than just faith.]
- This wraps up the "Between the Words" quest.
You receive two new quests:
- A Monk and a Saint - A search for a magic sword. You have likely heard this story before and might even have a fragment of the weapon already. You need to track down Albertus in the Middens, but you can save that for later.
- Where Old Devils Lie - The next step in the Anca questline. You have to wait a full in-game day to continue. The quest log will update when Anca is ready to move forward.
Quest Lore & Objectives
Together with Anca, I managed to find the forbidden books deep below the haunted convent. Now I have to see if they hold the answers I seek.
- Study the forbidden books with Anca
- Browse through the books with Anca
- Prepare a warm drink for Anca
- Bring the intriguing book to Anca
After hours of browsing maddeningly vague and cryptic writings, we finally found something useful - a reference to an ancient magic sword, designed to slay monsters. I could really use it!
