Quest: Bad Blood

Night has fallen (Night 1). The "Bad Blood" quest follows the events from the previous evening at the Church. During the "Sacred Covenant" quest and the Blood Mass, Pieter decides to follow Vladimir's plan. They head out to the Silver Mines to extract the silver needed to fight the Vrakhiri.

You have 5 Time Segments left before dawn to finish this quest. You should have no trouble getting it done.

  • Starting Location: Silver Mines
  • Quest Giver: Automatically after "Sacred Covenant".
  • Time Cost: 5 Time Segment

Bad Blood Walkthrough

After a cutscene showing the events in the Silver Mines, Coen wakes up wounded and with no memory of what just happened.

As you move through the mine:

  • Loot everything you find.
  • Check every room using Focus Mode and [Inspect] all highlighted items.

Upper Level of the Silver Mines

  • Talk to Vladimir and start looking for Pieter in the mine.
  • Aid Ludwig.
  • When you run into Kostel, try to help him. Make sure to avoid the [give in to the hunger] option until you run out of dialogue choices.
  • No matter how hard you fight it, you will end up biting Kostel anyway. This triggers a vision revealing that Brencis took your father back to the village.
  • Kostel pushes you down to the Lower Level of the Silver Mines.

Lower Level of the Silver Mines

  • Find a way back up.
  • Follow the corridors toward the exit. Keep exploring and picking up loot.
  • You encounter Kobolds, the underground dwellers. You must defeat them.
  • You learn to use the Shadowstep skill.
  • You learn to use Voracious Bite to restore health.
  • You learn to use the Planeshift and Ceiling Planeshift skills.
  • You exit the mine.

Out of the Silver Mines

  • You learn to use the Clawride skill.
  • You need to head to the village. Right after taking a few steps, you receive the "Find Vladimir" objective.
  • You run into soldiers. Try out [give in to the hunger] on them and kill them. If you agree to return to the village with them, you will fail to save Vladimir.
  • Focus on finding Vladimir. Make sure you have maximum health before approaching the hut.
  • Vladimir is trapped inside a burning building. Kill the soldiers outside and talk to him.
  • If you lose control during the conversation and pick [give in to the hunger], you will kill Vladimir. Be very careful here. If you end the fight with the soldiers extremely thirsty, healing during the dialogue becomes very hard. Use "Tainted Marrow" near the end of the fight (you should have found two portions in the Silver Mines) or drink a Portion of Blood from your inventory.
  • Walk with Vladimir to the cliff above the village and talk to him.
  • Go to the village.
  • The scene ends in a fight against Brencis. Your chances of winning are slim, though technically possible.
  • If you actually manage to kill Brencis right now, you end the game early. Realistically, he defeats you and nails you to a tree to burn in the sun. But you do not die.

This concludes the "Bad Blood" quest and the Prologue (Night 1).

We went to the mines to go get silver ore for the rebellion - but Brencis caught wind of our plans and attacked. I was wounded, I passed out - I don't remember what happened afterwards. All I know is that my father went missing and I need to find him.

  • Search for your father deeper in the mine
  • Aid Ludwig
  • Help Kostel
  • Find a way back up
  • Use vrakhiri skills to cross the precipice
  • Leave the mine
  • Return to Laslea and save your family
  • Find Vladimir
  • Talk with Vladimir
  • Defeat Brencis

I failed to stop Brencis. He toyed with me like a cat tormenting a mouse - and then left me out in the open, to burn in the sun. Only - I didn't. Why?

A cutscene plays showing the rebels returning to the Silver Mines, and it becomes clear the expedition didn't go as planned.

Lore: Silver Mines

Vale Sangora is a place of many riches, some of them - like silver - hidden deep underground. It's this precious metal that first drew people to our remote valley - and the foundation upon which the city of Svartrau was built.

For hundreds of years, Vale Sangora was a land of miners, but all that changed two years ago. Since silver is one of the few things that can weaken a vrakhir, Brencis ordered all the mines to close. As for the men who had worked there, they became farmers. And not many of them complained, since there's hardly any tougher job than mining.

Still, the silver is there, waiting to be used against Brencis and his court.

Upper Level of the Silver Mines

Coen wakes up in the mine wounded and with no memory of what just happened.

01 Vladimir

Talk to Vladimir.

This updates your objective to "Search for your father deeper in the mine" (1 Time Segment).

Vlad says some of his men ran deeper into the mine, and your father might be with them. You need to find him.

Start to explore Mine.

02 Blood Vision

You start feeling sick and experience bloody visions.

03 Ludwig

Your objective becomes "Aid Ludwig" (1 Time Segment). Ludwig is trapped under a beam, and he will die without help.

Save him by choosing:

  • [Talk with Ludwig]
  • [Hold on, Ludwig. We'll help you.]
  • [Let's lift the beam.]
  • [This isn't your fault.]

04 Man nailed to the wall

[Inspect] him to confirm it is not Coen's father. Keep moving.

05 Hanging man

Look up to spot a man hanging from a rope. You just need to look at him.

06 Silver Dust

You are in a silver mine, and the silver dust floating in the air is clearly harming Coen. Select:

  • [Something's wrong with me.]
  • [We haven't got time.]

07 Kostel

Your objective updates to "Help Kostel."

He is wounded and bleeding out. You feel strange as you approach him because you can clearly hear his heartbeat.

Choose [Kostel, have you seen my father?] and [I shouldn't touch him.].

Your dialogue options are clouded by a strong craving for blood.

Try your best to avoid choosing [give in to the hunger] and keep talking.

Select [Calm down, Kostel.].

No matter how hard you fight it, your bloodlust eventually takes over. You sink your fangs into Kostel and drink his blood, triggering a vision of what happened earlier in the mine.

Kostel fights back and pushes you down a shaft into the lower levels of the Silver Mines.

Lower Level of the Silver Mines

You survive the fall thanks to your new vampire powers, which heal your wounds. Out of the corner of your eye, you see someone drag Kostel's body away. You hear voices and sense a presence just out of sight.

08 The Pit

Your goal is now to "Find a way back up."

You are in a closed room. Squeeze through the crack in the wall to look for an exit.

09 Skeleton

The skeleton holds a nice sword and a readable letter. Loot the Superior Shortsword Pilgrim's Messer and the Soggy Letter.

10 Inhuman Paintings

[Inspect] the drawings on the wall.

11 Fork in the path

Turn left and head downstairs.

12 Kobolds

You finally discover who is whispering in the dark. It is a group of Kobolds, and you need to kill them. Try fighting with your claws.

NPC: Kobold (Monster)

Dawnwalker: Kobold - game-maps.com
Dawnwalker: Kobold

Kobolds are cave-dwelling man-eaters.

When I worked in the mines, I heard people talk about cave-dwelling man-eaters called kobolds. These stories proved to contain more than just a kernel of truth. Kobolds are real - and fiercely territorial. They can be mostly encountered underground, though some - either lost or expelled by their own kin - can be found in the open. Kobolds have many monstrous cousins, known as imps or pookas, who may differ in appearance - but share the appetite for human flesh.

Kobolds may seem witless and ungainly, but don't let it deceive you. They are, in fact, surprisingly smart and agile. They will leap at you, strike and then scatter before you even have a chance to react. Even the most skilled fighter, if alone, may fail to defend themselves against the entire swarm of these devils.

TYPE: Supernatural

At the end of the corridor, you will find Superior Light Trousers Dark Well-Fitted. Equip them.

Return to the intersection (11) and go right, squeezing between the wall and the chasm.

13 Shadowstep

You receive the objective "Use vrakhiri skills to cross the precipice." Use Shadowstep to leap across the gap. This updates your objective back to "Find a way back up."

14 Lower Left Path

Before jumping up to the ledge, check the lower corridor to find Superior Heavy Boots Leather Boots.

15 Voracious Bite

The only way for a Vrakhir to restore health is to Drink Blood. You can use Voracious Bite outside of combat on unaware enemies or neutral creatures. Feed on the rats here until your health returns to maximum.

16 Kobolds

Another fight with Kobolds. Kill them and follow the path up.

17 Inhuman Paintings

[Inspect] the wall drawings.

18 Planeshift

Shadowstepping onto a flat wall or ceiling lets you walk on it, though moving in Planeshift drains Stamina. Use Planeshift to walk up the wall.

19 Ceiling Planeshift

Use Planeshift on the ceiling to cross the chasm.

20 Exit from Silver Mines

Your objective changes to "Return to Laslea and save your family" (2 Time Segments).

Out of the Silver Mines

You are now out of the Silver Mines and need to head to the village to find your family. Time is ticking and morning is approaching. Do not get distracted by anything else. Just head straight for the village.

21 Clawride

Approach the edge of the precipice and slide down using Clawride.

22 Find Vladimir

Approach the edge of the precipice and slide down using Clawride.

Your objective updates to "Find Vladimir" (1 Time Segment).

You are starting to run out of time. You need 2 Time Segments to return to Laslea and save your family, plus 1 Time Segment to find Vladimir.

However, if you find Vladimir, he will show you a shortcut and you will make it in time. Focus on finding Vladimir.

23 Soldiers

If you agree to go back to Brencis with them, you will fail to save Vladimir. Deal with them in the vampire way by choosing [give in to the hunger] and move on. You will find "Military Orders" on their bodies.

Blood Craving: When Vampiric Health drops to 1 Segment, you become Hungry and Crave Blood. In this state, you might lose control during a dialogue and drain the person you are talking to, even a friend. While in Vampire form, you must keep your health high. The more injured you are, the harder it is to talk to living people. Feed on animals along the way before you reach Vladimir, or you will end up eating him.

24 Chests

Loot them for a Scarlet Knightly Gambeson and a Recipe for Mending Ointment.

25 Soldiers

Kill the soldiers and keep moving.

NPC: Uriash (Monster)

Dawnwalker: Uriash - game-maps.com
Dawnwalker: Uriash

Most uriashi still live high up the mountains.

Most people I know fear the uriashi. And yes, they are intimidating, both much taller and bulkier than us. To make matters worse, they have horns, which - to some - make them look like devils.

But in actuality, they treat people with the same cautiousness and distrust with which we treat them. That's why - despite Brencis's invitation - most uriashi still live high up the mountains and only a few decided to settle among humans. If threatened, they won't hesitate to defend themselves against us. Given their imposing size and strength, it may end up with them snapping a grown man's neck with just one hand.

TYPE: Supernatural

26 Vladimir

Make sure you have maximum health before approaching the hut.

Vladimir is inside a burning building. Kill the soldiers outside and talk to him.

If you fail to control yourself talking to Vladimir and pick [give in to the hunger], you will kill Vladimir. Be very careful during this conversation. If you finish the soldier fight extremely thirsty, it will be hard to heal during the dialogue. Near the end of the fight, use "Tainted Marrow" (you should have found two portions in the Silver Mines) or drink a Portion of Blood from your inventory.

Choose:

  • [We can still save my father.]
  • [You're afraid - I get it. I am, too.]
  • [That's not true.]

27 Cliff Overlooking the Village

Walk with Vladimir to the cliff above the village and talk to him.

Choose:

  • [Then at least I'll die with my family.]
  • [Makes no difference now.]

Vladimir will tell you about the rebels, and you can say your goodbyes. Ride down the cliff using Clawride.

28 Run to the Village

You run into Brencis and your father.

Choose:

  • [Never!]
  • [Malformed? What do you mean?]
  • [Where's everyone?!]

The scene ends in a fight against Brencis. Your chances of winning are slim, though technically possible.

If you manage to kill Brencis right now, you end the game early. Realistically, he will defeat you and nail you to a tree to burn in the sun. But you do not die.

This concludes "Bad Blood" quest and the Prologue (Night 1).
