Ethereal Pathway Puzzle

Crimson Desert Abyss NexusPuzzle

The Ethereal Pathway Puzzle consists of four steps, detailed in [03], [04], [05], and [06].

To reach the lower level, you first need to clear the force field floor blocking your path (floor). Look to the sides to find two small pedestals. One has a blue cube sitting on it, but the other is empty because its cube is floating nearby.

Use Axiom Force on the blue cube drifting in the center. Grab it and set it on the empty pedestal so it matches the one opposite. This shuts down the barrier, allowing you to drop into the structure.

Learn Force Palm

Part of solving this puzzle involves learning a new ability - Force Palm.

Many abilities in Crimson Desert are acquired by watching Echoes, spectral figures that demonstrate specific moves.

Look for an Echo near the wall. Approach it and select [Observe], then wait a moment for the new ability to unlock.

Force Palm

Force Palm is easily one of the most flexible tools in your Crimson Desert kit, proving its worth in both combat and exploration.

Force Palm drains Stamina, so bumping up your Spirit stat lets you use it more often.

When it comes to Puzzle Solving, you will use Force Palm to shove Power Sources into sockets or slam down large floor buttons. Interactive spots are usually marked by swarms of glowing green crystals, though you can also use it on metal grille covering the entrance and heavy circular switches.

For moving, you can trigger Force Palm while gliding or climbing to get a quick height boost.

When gathering resources, a single strike will instantly shatter a node and loot the materials.

In a fight, keep in mind that Force Palm has very short range, but its utility grows as you unlock upgrades.

You will learn the basics early in Chapter 1 by watching an Echo in the Ethereal Pathway. There is also a more advanced version called Focused Force Palm.

Force Palm Controls:

  • PC: Click Mouse Wheel (MMB)
  • PS5: Press Right Stick (R3)
  • Xbox: Press Right Stick (RS)
05

Use Force Palm

Grab Power Core with Axiom Force and put it in the socket in the wall.

Use Force Palm to push the Force Core and slot it into the Socket.

06

Activate the Power Supply

Hang on the middle of the powered device, then activate it with Force Palm.

07

Ethereal Pathway Challenge

Take Abyss Artifact from Challenge Monument.

White Crow

Crimson Desert Main Quest

Woman in White

Main Quest, Chapter 1: The First Encounter / Trace

Speak with the woman in white.

White Crow: One of the four beings maintaining the balance of the Abyss. She is a transcendent entity that has existed since ancient times, alongside Alustin. Despite her tireless efforts, the balance of the Abyss has begun to waver, and so she aids Kliff from the shadows in the hope of stabilizing the Abyss and the lands below.

09

Learning to Fly

White Crow has granted you the ability to fly. Jump off the edge of the island and head toward the center of Hernand Town. Just make sure to slow your descent for a soft landing so you don't smash into the ground.

This is end of Chapter I: The First Encounter.

Once you land in Hernand and finish the Main Quest: Woman in White, use the Abyss Nexus to return to the Ethereal Pathway and finish exploring the island.

After returning from Hernand Town

You should spend the Abyss Artifacts you've collected so far on boosting your Stamina.

It’ll make climbing and flying a whole lot easier.

10

Chest

The chest is on a small floating island. Head to the edge, jump, and glide toward it. Once you reach the island, you'll grab the ledge, just climb up and open the chest.

11

Skybridge Gate

Crimson Desert Skybridge GateSkybridge Gate and Alignment Device

Head through the Skybridge Gate and activate the Alignment Device to restore the path to the rest of the island.

12

Platforms

Take your time and carefully jump your way across the moving platforms.

13

Treasure Chest

Reaching the distant island with the Treasure Chest is a bit of a challenge at this stage. Like I mentioned, spend your Abyss Artifacts to boost your Stamina first.

Wait for the moving platform to get close, then jump, glide, and grab onto the side of the island. Climb up and open the chest.

14

Heading back

Getting back to the moving platforms is a little trickier. First, jump onto the small stationary island and wait for the platforms to head your way.

When they’re close, jump and use Force Palm to boost yourself upward, then glide toward the platforms. Grab the ledge and climb up.

Jump to the final island [15].

15

Teleporter to Root's End

Crimson Desert Abyss TeleporterAbyss Teleporter

Root's End is the next Abyss Island.

You don't have to head there right now, you can always go back to Hernand Town instead to continue Chapter 2. However, if you're up for another puzzle and a new island, you're good to go as long as you've leveled up your Stamina at least twice. You already have all the skills you'll need there.

Crimson Desert Map Legend

No. Description
Crimson Desert Main Quest

Main Quest

Crimson Desert's story is split into a Prologue, 12 Chapters, and an Epilogue. Every section is broken down into two or more Sub-Chapters, which house the Main Quests driving the narrative.

You'll need to tackle these in a specific order. Most of them kick off automatically once you wrap the last one, and you'll only ever have one active quest at a time. The starting locations for Main Quests are marked on my maps. Sticking to the main story is easily the best way to see everything the game world has to offer.

Crimson Desert Faction Quest

Faction Quest

Faction Quests in Crimson Desert act as side missions, completely separate from the main story and tied directly to the Reputation System. You'll run into new Faction Quest as you hit new areas and build your standing with Factions or with Main Quest progress.

Every quest you finish for a specific group increases your Contribution Rank, giving you access to more work and their specific services. Rewards go beyond just reputation, you're also looking at Abyss Artifacts, Skills, Inventory Expansions, and Camp Upgrades.

Crimson Desert Notice Board

Notice Board

Notice Boards are a vital hub for tracking down side activities in Crimson Desert. They're packed with Bounty Posters and Requests & Commissions for new quests, alongside Vendor Advertisements that lead you to interesting merchant spots.

Once you snag a flyer, you actually have to read it. Give it a close look to catch any hidden clues. You won't always get a clear map marker, so you’ll need to dig into the text to figure out where to go.

Notice Board listings can refresh as you get further into the game.

Crimson Desert Abyss Nexus

Abyss Nexus

Abyss Nexuses act as fast travel points in Crimson Desert. You first need to find and activate one before you can use it. When you're nearby, use your Lantern or the Blinding Flash skill, then simply stand on the Abyss Nexus.

Once it's active, you can fast travel to this location just by clicking the icon on your in game map.

You might run into a "broken" Abyss Nexus, which you'll need to fix by solving a straightforward environmental puzzle.

Crimson Desert Abyss Gate

Abyss Gate (one way from Pywel to Abyss Islands)

The Abyss Gate is a portal that transports you one way from Pywel to the Abyss dimension.

Various gates scattered across Pywel lead to different locations in the Abyss. These operate strictly as one-way passages and do not function like Abyss Nexuses.

You will find the first Abyss Gate in Hernand Castle during Chapter 1.

Crimson Desert Abyss Teleporter

Abyss Teleporter (one way between Abyss Islands)

The Abyss Teleporter moves you one way between Abyss Islands. You use it as a one-time trip to reach a new, previously unvisited island for the first time.

It leads from a completed island to a new, unvisited one. It usually sits at the end of the area you are currently exploring and pops up once you finish The Abyss Restoration Challenge on that specific island.

Crimson Desert Skybridge Gate

Skybridge Gate

The Skybridge Gate activates on an Abyss Island once you finish restoring that specific island. This gate and its Alignment Device let you rebuild destroyed Abyss Skybridges that lead to the next part of the island.

Pass through the gate and use Axiom Force on the Alignment Device to set the right position and restore the path. Getting the correct alignment is straightforward. Just rotate it until it stops, as there are no complex puzzles involved.

Crimson Desert Abyss Restoration Challenge

Abyss Restoration Challenge

Every island in the Abyss needs restoration before it becomes fully functional. The Abyss Restoration Challenge monument is where you claim your reward after finishing a Challenge task.

Restoration usually involves puzzles, ranging from straightforward tasks to complex, multi-layered brain teasers. Your reward is typically an Abyss Artifact used to gain a Skill Point.

Crimson Desert Abyss Cresset

Abyss Cresset

Abyss Cressets are challenges you'll need to beat for a reward. These tasks range from solving logic and physics Puzzles to winning duels or even learning up new techniques. Once finished, you'll open up an Abyss Nexus fast travel point at that spot and score an Abyss Artifact (Skill Point).

Crimson Desert Abyss Puzzles

Puzzles and riddles

Puzzles and Riddles are baked into the Crimson Desert experience, and you'll run into plenty of them across both Pywel and the Abyss. The variety is solid, ranging from Ancient Ruins Puzzles to Abyss Restoration Challenges, as well as Labyrinths and Mazes.

Crimson Desert Sealed Abyss Artifact

Sealed Abyss Artifact

Sealed Abyss Artifacts are physical items scattered throughout Pywel. Grabbing one triggers a specific Challenge. Once that's finished, you can "unseal" the item right in your inventory to get an Abyss Artifact, a Faded Abyss Artifact, or some Abyss Gear.

Look for Sealed Abyss Artifacts along roads, usually tucked away in small stone altars or cairns.

Crimson Desert Abyss Artifact

Abyss Artifact

Abyss Artifacts work as a currency you can trade in for Skill Points to build out your character or boost your Health, Stamina or Spirit.

You'll pick up Abyss Artifacts as you fill your XP bar, but they're also handed out for taking down bosses, finishing Main Quests, and solving puzzles at Abyss Cressets.

Crimson Desert Faded Abyss Artifact

Faded Abyss Artifact

Faded Abyss Artifacts work just like Respec Tokens. Using one lets you reset your entire Skill Tree to get back all your regular Abyss Artifacts.

They’re pretty rare and tough to find, but later in the story, you can pick them up from Witch Vendors or just craft them yourself.

Crimson Desert Bell

Bells

There are eight Bells scattered across Bell Towers throughout Pywel in Crimson Desert. They're vital for exploration because each one clears the fog of war on map and reveals points of interest nearby.

Once you find a Bell, climb the tower, ring it, and check in with the Shai Resident. This is all part of the Toll of Pywel faction questline.
