Dragon Age: The Veilguard will start with a short intro in which the narrator Varric, whom you know from previous Dragon Age games, will tell you about Solas.

The next step is to create your hero Rook in Character Creation.

  • Lineage - your hero's race and gender affect the course of the game (e.g. romances), but it is not important in the basic and most important issues related to the Plot.
  • Appearance - here you have complete freedom, remember that you will also be able to change your appearance during the game.
  • Character Classes - if you intend to play on a low level of difficulty, the choice of class is basically irrelevant, choose one that suits your style of play. If you like slaughtering opponents, choose Warrior, if you like magic, choose Mage, if you like combat that requires cunning and uses tricks, choose Rogue. On higher difficulty levels, Warrior seems to be the most effective (and Warrior is recommended for the first gameplay), and Mage requires the most effort and skills.
  • Specializations - are not available at the beginning of the game, but you can look at the directions in which you can develop a given Character Class.
  • Factions - have an indirect impact on the gameplay, backstories can make completing tasks easier but also make them a bit more difficult. In general, this is not a decisive aspect in the game.
  • Playstyle - Difficulty levels mainly affect combat, they do not affect Story, loot quality and other gameplay elements. Higher difficulty levels do not forgive mistakes and lack of skills, at lower levels the combat is manageable for everyone.
  • Past Adventures - if you do not import characters from the previous game but you know Dragon Age Lore, you can set the effects of previous events. This is a very cool function for Dragon Age fans, but it is basically irrelevant for a normal player. The impact of these settings is negligible on the gameplay and is mainly limited to selected dialogues and easte eggs.
